Learning practical ways to relax in a busy world

8 Relaxation Techniques
Life can sometimes become too fast.
Work, responsibilities, information, worries and everyday pressure can leave us feeling tense without even realising how much we are carrying.
Learning how to relax is not about escaping from life.
It is about learning how to come back to yourself.
Do you recognise some of these signs?
Stress and anxiety do not always feel like “stress” or “anxiety”.
Sometimes the body speaks first.
You may notice that your breathing becomes faster or more shallow. Perhaps you get tingling or pins and needles in your hands, feet or around your mouth. You may experience headaches, a feeling of tightness in the chest or throat, or tension and spasms in your hands or feet.
Other people notice disturbed sleep, digestive discomfort, a feeling of inner uneasiness, ringing in the ears, sensitivity to their surroundings or difficulty relaxing.
And sometimes we try to deal with the accumulated tension in other ways — by smoking, eating more than we need, drinking alcohol or simply staying constantly busy so that we don’t have to feel it.
Do you recognise yourself in some of this?
This does not mean that every symptom is caused by stress or anxiety. Physical symptoms can have many different causes and should not simply be ignored.
But sometimes the body is telling us that it needs a different kind of attention.
Learning to work with your breathing, your body and your mind can give you another way of responding.
That is what this short seminar is about.
A short and practical relaxation seminar
In this seminar you will learn eight simple relaxation techniques that you can use in everyday life.
The techniques combine breathing, body awareness, movement and relaxation of the mind and body.
You will not simply hear about relaxation.
You will practise each technique yourself.
The aim is to discover which methods work best for you and to develop the confidence to use them when you need them.
What will you learn?
The seminar introduces eight different approaches to relaxation.
Among them are techniques for:
- calming and slowing down the breath
- releasing physical tension
- becoming more aware of what is happening in your body
- bringing attention back to the present moment
- supporting a more balanced breathing pattern
- relaxing the mind as well as the body
- improving your ability to settle and unwind
- creating a simple personal relaxation routine
We also look at the relationship between oxygen (O₂), carbon dioxide (CO₂) and breathing, and how breathing patterns can influence how we feel.
You will learn not only what to do, but also something about the attitude and intention behind each exercise. This can make the techniques much easier and more effective to practise.
Why learn relaxation techniques?
Stress can affect us in many different ways.
We may notice tension in the body, difficulty switching off, restless sleep, headaches, shallow breathing, irritability or simply the feeling that we cannot slow down.
Some people are naturally more sensitive to their surroundings and to stimulation. Others may have learned to keep going for so long that they hardly notice their own tension anymore.
Whatever your starting point, relaxation is a skill that can be learned.
You don’t need to be “good at relaxing”.
You simply need to practise.
Take the techniques with you
At the end of the seminar, you will have eight practical techniques that you can continue to use at home and in everyday situations.
You will also receive a free manual with the techniques and instructions practised during the seminar.
The goal is simple: To develop the ability to relax yourself and to use these techniques when everyday life becomes demanding.
Who is this seminar for?
Anyone who would like to learn more about relaxation is welcome.
It can be useful for people who:
- experience everyday stress or tension
- find it difficult to switch off
